Review of Erin Brockovich (2000) by Niels S — 11 Jul 2012
Julia Roberts gives a classic movie star performance in Erin Brockovich, one that simultaneously proves how good of an actor she can be and also why she's so famous in the first place. She basically carries the movie and she just shines in every scene.
The film itself is by-the-books inspirational popcorn entertainment: endlessly watchable and likable, just challenging enough to make the audience feel good about the world, and well-made enough to warrant praise.
It's a good film led by a great director and carried by a great actress (and a superb supporting turn from the always reliable Albert Finney), and while it loses steam near the end, Erin Brockovich is a solid, entertaining, well-made film.
