Review of Erik the Viking (1989) by Private U — 25 Apr 2008
Disappointing.
I really wanted to like this film, as I love Monty Python. But it was pretty awful stuff. John Cleese is only in about 2 scenes. Tim Robbins must be so embarrassed to have done this film. The 'special effects' are painfully terrible. I guess this film hasn't aged well in that respect. There is quite a nice story behind it all but it?s just not believable enough nor is it particularly funny. The only scene that really had me laughing was the Japanese galleon slave driver who spouted a tirade of hilarious stereotyped insults about Westerners. But I think you?d be best to stick to the supreme classic that is Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
