Review of Erik the Viking (1989) by Eric N — 10 Jun 2010
I liked the vikingness of it all, and I liked the comedy, though it seemed to be not going for laughs entirely.
It doesn't compare at all to the Monty Python movies. Same problem with this movie as with Yellowbeard - it's got Monty Python actors but it's really not very funny. It's almost as if they are trying to keep it unfunny! WHY!?
I don't think the movie works cause it's too much a normal movie to be a comedy and too off-the-wall bizarre to be a proper viking adventure story, so it's an undoubtable failure. It is more Python-esque than Yellowbeard though, so that's a good thing, but it also doesn't look as nice as that did.
