Review of Eraserhead (1977) by John A — 22 Oct 2011
The grotesque images of this film are so beautifully shot as to create a formal conflict that works well in bringing an atmosphere of instability and uncertainty. These qualities sum up well the world of the lead character, alienated and alone in the modern world, while completely overwhelmed at the prospect of fatherhood.
The sound design adds a disturbing layer even as some of the scenes (esp. early) play out in bizarrely comic fashion.
