Review of Eraserhead (1977) by Robert A — 29 Jun 2011
Just watched this for the third time. I think this is my new favorite movie of all time. From now on I'm going to say that it is. Just so that I can have one and get weird looks from people when I tell them.
I just watched this for the second time. It had a profound impact on me. You will not forget this movie. There is no explanation for what occurs in this film. If you want an explanation you will have to create one for yourself. If you have a clear definition of weird, this movie might alter that definition. Ultimately this film is about a man who ends up becoming a father, unknowingly. Then once the mutant deformed baby arrives...all hell is let loose. Nightmares mix into reality. Reality mix into nightmares. By the end you are left confused and unsettled. It leaves you wondering what it all means. All I can say is that the unclear answer is staring you in the face during the full runtime. It's there for you to decipher.
