Review of Eraserhead (1977) by Joseph G — 09 Jul 2010
Eraserhead is Quite clearly and unanimously the most bizarre film. It is super surreal, twisted and completely abstract almost compelling you to rack the bogus part of your brain.
But by no means is this movie over-rated. It is unique in every sense of the term owing to the cinematography and audio used in the film which make it grotesquely beautiful.
Its distinctness opens up a platform for endless and vicarious interpretations, none of which of course make sense in the end. It can also be credited with the prospect of having opened up a very unconventional dialog process between the viewer and the film where the viewers anticipation is constantly challenged.
This is an original masterpiece with a dismally low 'entertainment' value. Lynch inevitably took some mystery from this one to light up his masterpiece The Elephant Man. One would only wonder how Lynch did all this with just $10,000. All said, it cannot be missed and is a much watch for those studying/exploring films.
