Review of Eragon (2006) by Rachael F — 11 Sep 2012
You thought Stormbreaker was terrible for a book-turned-movie? Then wait 'til you see Eragon. Or hopefully you will be able to avoid this atrocious movie altogether.
Proving once again that hiring beauty over skill is a grave mistake to make in film, Ed Speelers is the title character that shows he knows as much about acting as a rock knows how to walk.
The acting for one is terrible, and the special effects, sometimes exhilerating, most of the time shabby, made it hard to be interested, as they were uninspiring thanks to the likes of Lord of the Rings raising the bar on that term.
The editing was also terrible, and many mistakes failed to escape me. And I was told from a reliable source that the filmmakers skipped much of the story in an attempt to compact the film, so viewers' interest wouldn't wonder. They failed dismally.
But as bad as these things were, the worst was yet to come until the credits started to roll, and I heard an Avril Lavigne song. Whatever mood or authenticity that the film had managed to salvage during the boring course of itself was taken away instantly.
Therefore, it's sad that the highpoint of the film was about 20 minutes in when we get a few minutes watching the impossibly adorable baby dragon wander around a stable. And this is very sad indeed.
Avoid at all costs.
