Review of Eragon (2006) by Adrian D — 23 Jul 2012
*Note: I have not read the book that was adapted into this motion picture, therefore I can only judge it at a film-making standpoint. This review presents in no means, any disrespect towards the book. Thank you!*.
Christopher Paolini's bestselling novel makes an ambitious attempt to the big-screen, which unfortunately results in a tiring ambiguous mess, that drowns it's audience with wooden acting, emotionless character development as well as boring and cliche dialogue, all of which never help to intensify the film's atmosphere. The script is by far the most twisted out of all of the flaws, presenting various different subplots that establish nothing to allow the story to progress, nor do they in anyway, deliver a sense of attachment to the plot at hand. Eragon tries to create an original concept for a story, introducing a fantasy epic intended to be enjoyed by people both young and old. It fails to entertains in this way, simply because the plot itself IS UNORIGINAL, for it borrows several different key plot points from iconic films such as, "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings", thus beginning, progressing and ending in the same fashion. Whatever emotions the audience is meant to invest within the film, is already gone mainly because the film mocks the story-lines of far more superior films, of which most people have seen and heard of many times. Eragon is unfortunately so, a piece of cinematic trash, which many will agree, does not do justice to the book, nor would it be cherished by those whose imaginations aspire towards stories of adventure.
