One of the professional reviews said - great for 10 year olds, and that is the truth. They know their perspective audience and so this is the right age bracket for this movie. Obviously had to simplify many of the plot lines from this tome of a book.
Don't walk in expecting SW or LOTR and you'll be fine, sit back and enjoy it through a 10 year olds eyes.
