The story is not overly sad or devastating as some of his films prior to "Higanbana", but Ozu's first color film was more of an exercise in the world of color and its use in his films. It is not obvious that this is his first in color, as it is used so well, and extremely meticulously.

So is the story worth it? Yes, it's one of Ozu's best films, even though it tackles the age-old story about family life and the father feeling a bit of an outsider in his family. Sounds familiar with so many other Ozu titles, but completely worth the time.
