Review of Enter the Ninja (1981) by Steven N — 03 Apr 2009
It's been a long while since I've seen a "ninja" movie. As a child I went absolutely bonkers for this stuff. I wondered how one of the films would translate seeing it though a pair of slightly more intelligent, vastly more jaded, adult eyes though.
Thanks to the watch instantly tab on Netflix I was able to find out. The plot is simple enough, an American ninja training abroad finishes his studies then goes to stay with an old war buddy. His pal is having trouble with some locals looking to take his land, and the ninja is forced to knock some sense into them two-toed boot style.
Overall the film is an absolute riot - though I don't think any of it was intentional. The action is terribly goofy, and the characters incredibly over-the-top. The things coming out of their mouths are so badly written that you start thinking the movie must have been written by a twelve year old.
Our hero ninja is a blond-haired Burt Reynolds-esque, hairy chested tough guy sporting a mustache so very 70's that it'll keep you chuckling for the films entire 100 minutes. "Enter the Ninja" is one of those rare instances where a movie is so cheesy, and so bad, that it actually becomes becomes better because of it.
If you're looking for a good laugh find this movie, rent this movie, watch this movie. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
