Review of Enter the Dragon (1973) by Van R — 18 Jul 2010
Martial arts movies are an acquired taste. Director Robert Clouse made one of the better kung fu films "Enter the Dragon" at the height of Bruce Lee's fame. Mind you, FISTS OF FURY and THE CHINESE CONNECTION should not be dismissed, but these were Chinese-language films dubbed into English, with even Lee's voice being dubbed.
Warner Brothers produced ENTER THE DRAGON and it served as the American film debut of Bruce Lee. Essentially, ENTER THE DRAGON is a martial arts makeover of the James Bond movie DR. NO. Three agents are dispatched to a martial arts tournament on a remote island.
Bruce Lee, John Saxon, and Jim Kelly--an African-American martial arts sensation in the 1970. Our heroes find themselves knee-deep in trouble before it is over with. Tragically, Bruce Lee died and never saw ENTER THE DRAGON in theatrical release.
