Review of Enter the Dragon (1973) by John F — 25 Apr 2011
Enter the Dragon was one of the first successful combinations of Hong Kong and American cinema. It stars the legendary Bruce Lee (in sadly his last film before his untimely death) as a fittingly named "Lee", a martial artist who is asked to spy on a reclusive crime lord. The action scenes are undoubtedly some of the best ever committed to film as Lee jumps about, screeching like a bird, dispatching enemies like dominoes. The dubbing is poor, the plot nonsensical and the dialogue rather silly, but that's not what matters here; instead it's the wonderful characters and hugely enjoyable martial arts sequences, as well as the hip 70s soundtrack. And indeed there is the visible influence that Bruce Lee had on the countless imitations, spoofs and rip-offs that followed.
No-one does it better than Bruce Lee.
