Review of Entangled (1993) by James M — 24 Aug 2008
Unmissable. Why? Because it's one of the funniest films I have ever seen. Yes, you read that right. Whilst classed as a 'thriller', this film has comedy by the bucket load, unintentionally.
Witness its atempts at Nouvelle Vague style French visuals, its erotic cliches and B movie budget (sound, lighting, editing not great) mixed with high budget locations (a stunning Chateaux).
Cringe at its attempts to capture a writer's sensibilities (do they all move to Paris, fall in love and sit at type writers while smoking?!).
Enjoy the beautiful shots of a naked / French lingerie clad actress in the lead, coupled with Judd Nelson's always entertaining deadpan delivery (really the same as it was in 'The Breakfast Club'!).
But above all else..sit back, laugh and enjoy Pierce Brosnan at both his best and his worst. At his best, he shows the kind of elegance, physicality and poise that he should have shown more of as James Bond. At his worst?? The soft voice, modulated hand gestures and dash of camp make this a comedy classic, albeit unintentionally. I bought this for £1 yesterday, I had it on in the background during some filing and it will now have a special place in the DVD collection! Recommended (but for somewhat maverick reasons!)..
