Review of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005) by Mitchell B — 21 Apr 2008
You cant really criticize a documentary because it's just stating the facts... but there's nothing to criticize here. These guys put together a solid re-telling of the entire scandal without sounding too smart or business-minded; they just told the story.
They were able to personify Lay, Skillings, and Fastow as characters in a film just by using archive footage, which made the ending climax more personal and shocking. Going into this, I didn't know a lot about the scandal, but coming out, it's completely the opposite; and I didn't have to read a textbook.
Excellent story, excellent film.
