Review of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005) by Steve S — 10 Feb 2011
This documentary hits home even more than it may hit most, as I have also worked in the same industry and circumstances that Enron built and destroyed itself in. The whole film, I felt like all I could do is make parallels to my job in the deregulated natural gas market and the potential damage these kinds of business can cause to the economy.
The film very clearly outlines everything from the beginning of when the company started to see the monolithic amounts of success in the 90's to their utter breakdown in the early 2000s. The viewer must be taken aback by the lack of concern for others and the absolutely vicious attitude this company had not only toward its competitors, but its customers and employees as well.
Things like this should never be allowed to happen in this world, yet the film leaves us feeling like it could happen again. If you've ever been involved in corporate America, you should have seen this already.
