Review of Enough Said (2013) by Jj M — 06 Feb 2014
Obviously I am in the wrong demographic (and country) to accept this as a watchable film. I considered leaving after 20 minutes when it was clear to me that people who are divorced are in a world unto themselves.
They're a bit above it all, I thought. Then I gave it a chance, watched a bit more and tried very hard to like Julia Dreyfus character but couldn't. The daughters were extremely repulsive but then it occured to me that this was all a device to make people believe that parents really do have it tough.
Unfortunately, the characters of Dreyfus and Gandolfini are clearly weak and a bit pathetic to give credance to that statement of intent. Did the writer/director mean for these characters to be so and was I meant to feel sympathy for them? Then the credits rolled, I went home and stopped thinking about it.
..until now of course. But no, this is a terrible, terribly over-rated film.
