Review of Enlighten Up! (2008) by Steven B — 11 Jun 2009
Went with some friends and we enjoyed the story, but it isn't much of a film. About 80% of it is close ups of Nick Rosen, talking or sweating or looking confused. Only one scene where his cool is broken by thinking about how he misses seeing his Mom. Probably as interesting was the film makers admission that she wanted to 'prove' Yoga led to enlightenment by making this film. Ms Churchill deserves credit for going ahead on the project which, at times, makes her look a little silly.
Obviously sticking someone into Yoga, or mediation, or anything is not going to automatically lead to spiritual change if they don't want it. Mr. Rosen obviously gets his spirituality out of rock climbing, and that is just as well.
Not a bad way to spend an hour and a half, but like Mr. Rosen you'll probably come away unchanged.
