Review of English Vinglish (2012) by Borhan K — 22 Dec 2012
A very nice movie that tells the story about a mother that has major issues with English and speaking reading understanding etc. She gets no support or encouragement from her husband or daughter she just gets teased and made fun of that she does not try and learn and that shes an embarrassment to the family.
The movie struck some home truths for me and felt like something that my mum went through not for English but other things.
The Women gets to travel to the US and she fears it at first and is nervous etc...
Basically I could go on forever how you have to see this movie but I wont you just need to see it its a Bollywood Flick so make sure your version has subtitles.
Ohh and the one scene that had me up in arms was the mum had made ladoos and the kid comes out from behind a plant and scares the mum and she freaks and drops the whole plate of ladoos I would have killed the kid man that kid was very annoying in the movie.
The best part was when the mum learns English and puts her hubby and daughter in their place and they feel the embarrassment of what they put her through.
The Songs were there in the movie but were not great more like just background music.
On a film creating note this film is misleading to a degree although India has had issues with English this is not the case present day English is part of Schooling and in all places English is the first language they learn at school and then they learn Hindi.
This movie would be right about 30 years ago.
Highly Recommended even if you are not into Bollywood this flick you will relate to and will give you an understanding of where a person from another country comes from and feels when they come to a new land.
