Review of Enemy of the State (1998) by Derrick S — 21 Nov 2013
I used to love this movie when it came out. Interesting to see this film in a post Snowden/NSA leak world which basically what this movie was trying to say. Will Smith is a lawyer who happens to be in the right place at the wrong time and gets a videotape with damning evidence pointing to a cover up to eliminate a politician who opposes increased surveillance.
So they come after him, framing him for various crimes and bug him to track where he is going. He eventually meets up with Gene Hackman who helps him to lose the bugs and how to go incognito. While mostly good, the film is a bit long since their isn't much of a story.
The action is decent when there, but not much until the end of the movie. Technology has made a lot of things in the film obsolete but the idea is still pretty relevant today. Maybe not as good as I remembered it being, but still good.
