Review of Enemy of the State (1998) by Deb S — 14 Feb 2010
Enemy of the State stars Will Smith as a normal guy, with a normal job but when he accidentally finds himself with evidence of a politically motivated murder of an uncooperative Senator by Jon Voight, his entire life is in jeopardy.
With his job destroyed, his reputation tarnished, he turns to an ex-girlfriend, Lisa Bonet. She leads him to Gene Hackman, a paranoid informant who is also on the run from the government, to help him.
Jon Voight does a good job as the evil politician and the plot twist at the end was very clever. This movie reinforces my suspicious of the government after seeing this. Are we really being watched every minute of the day without our knowledge? It makes you think that personal privacy will soon be a thing of the past and video surveillance very much the norm.
A great psychological thriller and Tony Scott's direction keeps the action flowing and the viewer guessing as to what will happen next.
