Review of Enemy Mine (1985) by Axe A — 29 May 2007
A heartwarmingly compelling sci-fi tale of two enemies stranded on a vacant planet, forced to fend for themselves against the elements...and each other. Quaid and Gossett make the wild setting come to life, and there chiding back-and-forth creates some of the film's highlights.
The film works on so many levels. Visually, the graphics are rich and realistic, especially considering its time. Emotionally, it will make you laugh, shift to the edge of your seat and perhaps even shed a tear.
Morally, the subtext relays such a simple message using a fantastic setting; our differences are only skin deep. A must-have addition to any sci-fi collection.
