Review of Enemy Mine (1985) by Luc L — 09 Oct 2012
I recently got the Twilight Time Blu-ray of this cult classic. I haven't seen this movie in years but the Blu-ray has an beautiful transfer. It seems that it was made only a few years ago! I also forgot how moving the film can be at times.
Wonderfully directed by Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire, Poseidon "remake", The Perfect Storm) and the production designs are outstanding. Gossett Jr. make-up is convincing as well. But it is touching performances by Quiad and Gossett Jr.
makes it worth watching. For some tastes, the movie takes awhile to get moving or they find some scenes to be too "cute". But the heart of the film is in the right place. It was an box office disappointment, when it was first released.
But the movie did aged quite well for a picture that came out 27 years ago! The blu-ray transfer does include Maurice Jarre's interesting, sometimes strange and touching score for the Isolated Music Track option.
It would be great to hear an running commentary track from the director, I am sure, he has plenty of fascinating behind the scenes stories. Get this Blu-ray before it is too late. Since only 3000 copies were produced! Get it at the website for a much cheaper price, instead paying double or triple of this cult classic.
