Review of Enemy at the Gates (2001) by Francisco F — 26 Mar 2009
A good overall war movie from an interesting angle, Enemy at the Gates is hit and miss (pun intended; it's a movie about snipers, see) with some scenes that are superbly tense and most of the less tense stuff being somewhat bland and forgettable.
The performances are pretty good all around. Ron Perlman is quirky but wasted in a too-brief part. Bob Hoskins, in another brief part, is pitch perfect in historical accuracy. Something else that sets this film apart is that it contains what is perhaps one of the single most comically awkward sex scenes in film history.
It's not spectacular, but it's worth a see; especially if you like war movies.
