(2001) Enemy At The Gates.
BIO- WAR DRAMA.
Co-written and directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud with the war scenes are somewhat inspired by "Saving Private Ryan" because of the realism but with one small difference is that this story is based on an actual sharp shooter who used to be a soldier under Stalin rule. Starring Jude Law as Vassili Zaitsev championed as a hero and used as an inspiration for sharp shooting many Nazi invaders. This film chronicles Vassili Zaitsev's life very well from the time he was young and to the time he was automatically drafted into the Russian army. Joseph Fiennes also co-stars as Commisar Danilov a Russian press who's job is to encourage other people to rise up against the Nazis but happens to fall in love with the same nurse, Tania (Rachael Weiss). And Ed Harris was also memorable as one of Nazis best sharp shooters, pitting him against Zaitsev.
Footnote: A friend of mine who I consider to be a war historian was very intrigued by this person and did some further checking on him since the film didn't really provide any of his future existence in terms of whether he's still living or not, and he informed me that as a result of the recognition Vassili Zaitsev was receiving after WWII, Stalin's officials sent him away to another country which I think he was sent to Siberia.
Strong.
3 out of 4 stars.
