Review of Enemy at the Gates (2001) by Adam B — 09 Aug 2010
I actually found myself trying to enjoy this, but unfortunately, it didn't work. In the end this was just an average war film. The duel's between the two snipers were by far the best thing about it. They were atmospheric and were the one made thing in the film that made me want to sit up and pay attention.
The film also tried to say something about propaganda, but didn't execute it well at all, at times it almost felt as if the film was glorifying war. Added to this was the unnecessary love triangle, which in fairness didn't effect the film too badly, it just seemed a bit pointless. To be honest it could have been added in because the director couldn't think of a good enough ending. There were some good things about Enemy at the Gates. As with any war film there are some truly shocking and brutal moments, but it could have done a lot more to have a lasting impact on it's audience. And I've just got to say; Russians speaking perfect Queens English - brilliant.
