Review of Enduring Love (2004) by Thomas L — 23 Nov 2007

Anything based on an Ian McEwan novel is going be, uh, different to say the least. He really has a unique perspective on his fellow humans. It's very real, yet somehow unique. The beginning, as others have said on here, is fantastic.

And the fact that the camera work is mostly handheld and there's no music makes that scene much more heart stopping. You don't think about how a traumatic event can effect survivors, in terms of PTSD and all that.

This takes care of that perception and then some. Rhys Ifans is okay, but Daniel Craig and Samantha Morton are especially brilliant. I liked this better than some of director Roger Michell's previous efforts, such as Notting Hill and Changing Lanes.

But I didn't like this as much as Venus, that terrific Peter O'Toole film he made right after this.
