Review of Enduring Love (2004) by Joseph E — 31 Jan 2008
One of the best British films in years, Enduring Love is a fantastic, maturely made thriller. The film features a top-notch Brit cast led by Daniel Craig, Rhys Ifans and Samantha Morton, and a terrific director in Roger Michell (Notting Hill).
He gives the film a real visual quality, particularly the opening hot air balloon scene. A story like this needs a superb lead performance, and thankfully we get it from Daniel Craig. He is excellent as we watch his mind start to fracture, as fear and paranoia sets in.
Rhys Ifans is also excellent as his stalker, never reverting to OTT histrionics, but still remaining infinitely creepy and dangerous. A real actors showcase, and a definite reminder that the British film industry isn't dead.
