Review of Enduring Love (2004) by Tim C — 21 May 2008
It makes use of its promising premise for the first half and then it solidly slides into melodramatic mire, which isn't helped with obvious and intrusive film scoring. It's a shame it doesn't deliver because the basics for greatness are there.
Performances are all really strong, though I think the film suffers for not providing insight into its characters' motivations, and I can understand the difficulty in doing this with adapting McEwan's material.
This film doesn't succeed in the way Atonement did in revealing the emotional and psychological terrain of its characters.
