Review of Endless Love (2014) by Orlando O — 02 Jun 2014
Endless Love is a romantic drama film, yet again filled with the typical clichés for the genre, but it does have some sort of potential with the chemistry between the casts.
A love story about a father who is unable to accept his daughter from growing up with her life and finding love. Jade (Gabriella Wilde) a shy, charming young girl who kept to herself throughout her high school years until graduation, she meets David (Alex Pettyfer). Jade has plans for her future and arranged by her father Hugh (Bruce Greenwood) to get into the medical field. David is still unknown about his plans for the future except for working at a car shop with his father. Jade eventually falls for David, only exemption of her father disapproving of his lack of education, personality, and his low class profile. As Jade and Davids relationship moving closer than ever, her father is slowly trying to keep them separated.
Even though, most romantic drama movies out there usually have the typical clichés with the conflict of holding back the two main characters from being happily in love. Then, a typical event of some kind would make the characters conceal their conflict. This is one of those movies with that same cliché. Jade's father is emotionally conflicted after Jade lost her brother through cancer and he is having an affair with his wife. It does become melodramatic with Hugh and his wife unable to find happiness with each other, and his other son Keith (Rhys Wakefield) unhappy for not being good enough to his eyes. It eventually falls with an uneventful incident that finally settles the conflict with Hugh and David. It was bound to happen in these types of movies.
Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde had an outstanding chemistry with each other. Bruce Greenwood was good as the controlling father. Joely Richardson and Robert Patrick were also decent as well. Rhys Wakefield was also fair with his role as Jade's brother.
The movie was okay for a romantic drama; it had melodramatic sub plots, which was undeveloped in some areas. It was an acceptable film for a love story.
