Review of Endless Love (2014) by Reel And U — 14 Feb 2014
Her Review:
Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde) has just graduated from high school but she has yet to really live like the teenage she is. Her older brother's death two years ago devastated her family. Jade is left quiet and reserved, until she meets David Elliot (Alex Pettyfer). David has loved Jade from afar all through high school, so when his chance finally comes to introduce himself he doesn't hesitate. Their instant chemistry is undeniable and sparks trouble in the Butterfild home particularly with Jade's father Hugh (Bruce Greenwood). Everything he does to keep them apart only seems to make the situation worse. Together Jade and David must overcome all the odds in the name of endless love. Starring Joely Richardson, Robert Patrick, Rhys Wakefield, Dayo Okeniyi, Emma Rigby, Anna Enger.
Endless Love doesn't show the reality of love or romance, instead it caters to the over dramatized version that exists in every teenage girl's head. Those same teenage girls will more than likely be the only audience to appreciate this seemingly endless movie.
Endless Love, a remake of the 1981 Franco Zeffirelli film, tries to be to the 21st century what Say Anything, Some Kind of Wonderful or perhaps Sixteen Candles was to the 80's. Sadly it fails. I think that is large in part to its lead actors and then rest has to do with the story.
A story of the shedding of innocence and the move into adulthood is swamped in a overdramatic, extra gooey love story. Or maybe it is the other way around, its hard to tell. Either way the movie is convoluted and never-ending. You start wondering about 20 minutes into Jade and David's whirlwind romance where it's all going and why you even care. The whole thing is just a bit much to take.
Endless Love lacks anything to make this a movie you would want to see or remember....unless of course you are under the age of 17, female and just a crazy romantic. So teen girls enjoy because no one else really will.
5/10 Stars - Not even my inner over-dramatic teen girl could appreciate this one.
