Review of Endless Love (1981) by Bridgette F — 29 Sep 2011
Endless Love should have everything going for it: Based on an acclaimed bestseller, directed by Franco Zefferelli(Romeo & Juliet) and a very good cast which includes debut performances of Tom Cruise, Jami Gertz(Twister) and Ian Ziering(Beverly Hills 90210) but it stops dead on it's tracks due to it's slower than molasses pace and the disasterous last half.
It's the story about forbidden love between David(Martin Hewitt) and Jade(Brooke Shields The parents tell them to stay away from each other cause grades are suffering and they are getting too serious for their own good.
It's put together quite well by Zefferelli and both Shields and Hewitt are believeable looking in their roles but all the characters are one dimensional and the dialogue seems to be written by a Harrelquin romance novelist moonlighting as a screenwriter.
Teens back in '81 swooned over this slushy film like today's tweens swoon over theTwlight films.
