Ender's Game is surprisingly faithful to its source, and the source is certainly top notch. So as far as the plot goes, I can't really complain. But there's something sterile about the making of this film; it's faithfulness seemed to distract it from really getting into the emotional depth of the book. Perhaps the most glaring issue is Asa Butterfield, who doesn't seem ready for this role. His shallow, weak portrayal of Ender is what ultimately betrays all the other flaws in the adaptation.
