Review of Ender's Game (2013) by Chris C — 19 Jun 2014
While bringing a visual concept of the novel's setting to realization, the movie drops nearly all other associations. The plot is extremely rushed, giving the audience that only a few weeks have progressed from the time Ender has his monitor removed to the finding of the Queen larva.
No mention of Valentine and Peter's political effects on Earth are mentioned. Characters are haphazardly thrown together with no regard for the novel's timeline. The final scenes, also, are compressed together and come across as an afterthought.
No real analysis of the psychology of the novel regarding the use of children as battle commanders is ever explored. The children in the movie are viewed as whiney, high-IQ brats that are completely ignorant of the obviously transparent ploy by the adults.
