Before I wrote this I looked at a few comments from professional reviewers. What a bunch of tools! I remember being a child and my dad watched classic sci-fi films like Blade Runner and Dune and this film was right there with them.

Yes, it's not the usual sci-fi films we get today where it's straight-forward and uncomplicated, but that's what I love about it. The novel was written back in 1985, back when sci-fi could be more than just a standard Michael Bay story.

As far as the film's acting and special effects I'll admit they weren't anything impressive, but enough to help me enjoy this wonderful story. Given Harrison Ford's career I can see why he chose to be in this film, and that alone should be it's seal of legitimacy.

I get why people wouldn't like it, but I'm more interested in learning about this world. Due to it's critical judgment I doubt we'll see a sequel. But I'm definitely checking out the book(s).

Just as an FYI, I heard this book has become "suggested reading" to the U.S. Marine Corps, and I can see why. Suck on that Anthony Lane from the New Yorker!
