Review of Ender's Game (2013) by Mary O — 16 Nov 2014
As soon as the movie ended, I headed for the bookstore. I grew up hearing about the book, but never really understanding why so many of my teenage peers loved it. Now I understand. The people who disliked this movie either ignorantly couldn't look past their own intolerance of the author's personal religious views, (which he has every right to, btw) or because they were looking for an action space movie that requires no thinking or contemplation on the viewers' part.
This is a movie I like to refer to as "psych fi": a thought provoking movie that leaves the viewer to contemplate its meaning for not just the two hours they watch it, but for days or even months after watching it.
Don't expect to watch this movie and be entertained, but rather you will be urged to think about the hidden meanings and warnings that Card intended the story to be.
