Review of Ender's Game (2013) by Ivor K — 06 Apr 2015
Once again mankind is threatened by overgrown bugs (whatever happened to Rentokill?) who can muster an intergalactic invasion force but can't quite get the hang of basic inter-species communication.
Asa Buttersfield is the nosewipe tasked with saving humanity - his youthful good looks, monotone delivery and expressionless stare all point to a solid career in Hollywood. Training involves several bouts of zero-gravity paintballing and relentless videogaming whereafter young Ender destroys the aliens with steely efficiency.
Not quite as ruthlessly as Harrison Ford & (Sir) Ben Kingsley bank the cheque though. Overall, not a bad effort but it has an undercurrent of silliness throughout.
