Review of End of Watch (2012) by Aaron M — 23 Jul 2015
Watching this film makes me tear up, just a little bit. Perhaps that has to do with the plot, but it most likely is because this movie boasts the best on-screen chemistry between leads I have ever seen.
Gyllenhaal and Pena are gold, and their dialogue is so loose, so sharp, so genuine. With the interesting documentary style, the film looks real, as opposed to being, well, a cop movie. Anna Kendrick and the supporting cast are so good as well, but the leads make them look almost wooden in comparison.
This is Ayer's crowning achievement.
