Review of End of Watch (2012) by James W — 01 Nov 2013
Like watching Paranormal Activity, except with police not demons. End of Watch is gritty, ultra realistic and at times very scary, you really do get gripped watching Zavala and Taylor uncover some of the most brutal crime scenes.
The found footage point of view style is excellent and very fitting for the police genre, you genuinely feel part of the action, like I said before it's realistic from top to bottom, there's nothing gimmicky or fake, and the chemistry between the two leads is so believable, Gyllenhaal and Pena feel and look like real cops.
The violence is very graphic, the two protagonists find a pit of at least 6 decapitated bodies, and an old woman in a plastic bag suffocated, this proves that the gang they are after mean business. Featuring one of the most upsetting and heart-tugging endings in a movie you'll see all year, End of Watch will shock and surprise not only at the end but all the way through.
I'm definitely adding this one to the collection.
