Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Patricio R — 23 Feb 2009
This fascinating documentary about Antarctica, its inhabitants and the activities they perform on a daily basis, seems to prove true the statement saying that reality is stranger than fiction. Werner Herzog manages to show the most trivial of the activities in the ice continent as extraordinary events (maybe because they are in fact extraordinary, but still Herzog deserves credit).
There are several great moments in the documentary but I will mention 2: the penguin walking aimlessly, and the objects that are being saved for future generations in case something happens to the planet.
