Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Christopher P — 17 Sep 2010
After seeing this documentary, I will trust Werner Herzog to find meaning, substance and relevance in any subject matter. I've yet to see a more rewarding film about nature, and still this is so much more than a film about nature.
Herzog continuously finds his way to the right questions and musings in every situation, exposing a true hunger for meaningful exploration that far exceeds that of most "actual" explorers. And he manages to deliver all this without much of a political agenda or without stuffing opinions down the viewers throat (mostly anyway - except for showing a bit of disdain for everything trite every now and then).
In fact, as far as documentaries go I'd say this is as artful and respectful as they ever get.
