Review of Encanto (2021) by Theredsky — 05 Jan 2022
This was an absolute blast to watch. I really loved the smaller scale story here. Disney animation movies are usually on a much larger scale and it was really refreshing to see the they focus on one central location instead of multiple.
Most of the characters are pretty great as well. Mirabel, Luisa, Isabela, and Bruno were all well thought out and perfectly written. The other characters were fun but they were nowhere near as good as those 4 and I kinda wish some of them were on the same level.
The animation and visuals are phenomenal. It’s the best looking animated film of the year. The movements look incredibly fluid and the environments look gorgeous. The music as well is great. A majority of the songs are really fun and catchy.
The other songs I found to be somewhat forgettable though. The performances were all pretty good. I didn’t think there were any major standouts nor did I think anyone did a poor job. Everyone was good.
The story itself and it’s message that you don’t need to have a special gift to be yourself works wonders for this film. I would definitely recommend checking this out when you can. It’s one of Disney’s best in my opinion.
