Review of Empties (2007) by Ben T — 22 Jun 2009
Learning to let go, cope and reconcile at the sunset of one's elderly life is not a groundbreaking theme in world cinema. The Canadian did it already with AWAY FROM HER, so did the Swedish, French, British, Japanese, Korean, etc.
EMPTIES was distinguished for it was treated as a romantic comedy. The film was not director Jan Sverak's most original or his best film, but it was still delightful, sensual and witty during most of its 100 minutes! Father Zdenek Sverak who played horndog Josef was in great form.
I reckon this is one of the best summer fares for the more matured audience... so far!
