Review of Empire State (2013) by Magnus S — 21 Aug 2013
Going into Empire State I really wasn't sure what to expect. However I was pleasantly surprised. Although nothing original, I found the film quite good for what it was. Liam Hemsworth gives a surprising performance.
Although this is not his best performance, he does show a knack for delivering some effective work and he shows potential as a talented actor. The plot has its flaws, but it was better than what I thought it was going to be.
Empire State won't win any words, but it works well as mindless entertainment. If you're looking for a good little flick to watch, this one may be the one to watch. Empire State is a film to watch when you have nothing else better to watch.
With the cast here, they do work well enough with the average material to make it work well enough for you to keep you interested. There are things that could have been done better, but as a whole, it's not a film that deserves all the flack it has received.
I've seen far worst movies than this, and the film had potential of being much better. As it is, it's worth seeing, just don't expect anything great either. Empire State is a film that works well with its limitations to try and create something watchable, and in that respect, it works well.
However it's far from the film it could have been. Give it a viewing if you're bored and have nothing else better to do. Crime fans will surely enjoy this one; others looking for a more structured film will surely be disappointed as the material here is nothing new.
