Review of Empire Records (1995) by Rajneel S — 23 Mar 2009
Hyperactive, saccharine, mostly brainless tale about teens with terrible taste in music who work in a highly unlikely record store that allows them to ignore customers, dance, cause havoc and generally do anything except retail sales.
Despite some strong potential in the cast involved (and where they went in their eventual careers), the film is aimed mostly at pre-adolescents and doesn't function as anything more than turgid, teen trash.
It's "Breakast Club" with contrived pathos, mainstream sell-out attitude and - worst of all - a fairytale ending which ruins the whole point of the story to begin with.
