Review of Empire Records (1995) by Jenny H — 02 Sep 2010
This has been one of my favorites for quite a while now. Think-The Breakfast Club set in the 90's, only instead of detention, it is their job at an awesome independent record store. This whole movie takes place in roughly 24 hours, as Lucas a strange almost vintagey kid is trusted to lock up shop at night.
In the desk, he finds papers that suggest that his, and his friends beloved Empire Records was going to be sold to the corporate Music Town. He then goes to nearby Atlantic City to bet the cash he found with it that he might save his workplace from mainstream destruction, and of course, he loses.
The next day we see this awkward and motely group all come together, despite their differences to "Save the Empire!". It is a wonderful comedy about youth.
