Review of Empire Records (1995) by Jonathan B — 05 Feb 2013
Over the years Empire records has had a cult following. After films like Dazed and Confused these type of films became popular in the 90's, films about disenchanted youth like Kids (1995), Clerks (94) and Suburbia (96).
Empire records is about a record store run by Joe (Anthony LaPaglia) with a mixed group of misfit teens working for him. The story is quite simple the store must raise funds that an employee Lucas (Rory Cochrane) gambled away in Atlantic City.
They must save Empire records from becoming a franchise of stores called music town. This features many up and comers like Liv Tyler and Renee Zellweger. This film is nothing amazing but it is fun and kind of a guilty pleasure.
Featuring a great soundtrack!
