Review of Empire Records (1995) by Markus S — 07 Jan 2010
Finding a sense of purpose, a place in this world. I think that's what this movie was all about. No character really represents this more than Deb in the film. She has no idea where her family is, she's shaved her head and embraced the piercing/tattoo culture, and she's tried to kill herself.
She's died--at least in her eyes--and been reborn as a member of this "family" at the record store that's really taken her as one of their own. Think of this movie as "Boogie Nights"-lite in that sense.
