God I love Christian Bale. I find it hard to believe many films are really worth seeing, especially a somewhat long one like this. I can't think why this holds my heart. Oh yes - the scene of Christian Bale singing [an anthem] honouring his same-aged Japanese friend's induction into the enemy army - that's a partial answer.
... [spoiler alert] + parents finding their son, after so many years.
