Astonishing and heartbreaking movie about a young boy who loses his parents and eventually comes of age in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Christian Bale's star turn might just be the best performance by a child actor in the entire history of film (and for all of Mr.
Bale's accomplishments since, I'm not sure he's ever quite topped it).
